Spain’s Maria Parra became the third Spanish winner on the LET Access Series this season, with a one shot victory at the PGA Halmstad Ladies Open at Haverdal.
Parra follows in the footsteps of Luna Sobron, who won the Terre Blanche Ladies Open in April and Carolina Gonzalez Garcia, with her victory in the ASGI Ladies Open just three weeks ago.
The success of her fellow countrywomen will have spurred Parra on to lift a trophy of her own. The 18-year-old, who is currently ranked 3rd in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, was always in control during the final round, recording birdies on the 6th, 12th and 14th holes, for a final round of 69 and a two shot victory over Michele Thomson from Scotland.
The Spanish player scored just one bogey in her three rounds and was delighted with her first professional title, which also takes her to the top of the LETAS Order of Merit.
“I’m very happy to win this LETAS event. I’ve working a lot to make this victory possible. All the Spanish are so happy because in four LETAS events, we have 3 victories.”
“Today I was playing with confidence because in this moment I’m playing very good, when I stood on the first tee I said, María today is a new day, it is the first day so you can. And I made it.”
Thomson continues her consistent play and a second runner up placing in the last two events, finishing at 7 under par, with a final round of 69.
Local favourite Lynn Carlsson (72) and England’s Charlotte Thompson (70) and Holly Aitchison (68) finished in a tie for third place at 5 under par, 211.
Austria’s Sarah Schober (67) and Miriam Nagl (72) from Brazil tied for 6th place at 4 under par. Nagl earned valuable world ranking points to keep her hopes of playing in the Olympic Games on track. The Brazilian is currently ranked 465th in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and occupies 59th position on the Olympic Rankings. The top 60 players will qualify to play in Rio de Janeiro in August.
The Borås Ladies Open is the next event on the LET Access Series, which takes place at Borås Golf Club in Sweden from the 17th – 19th June.
