Sanna Nuutinen
One hundred and eighteen players from 27 different countries will compete at Vasteras Golf Club in this week’s Anna Nordqvist Vasteras Open. The second of three events in Sweden on the LETAS schedule will feature last week’s winner, Finland’s Sanna Nuutinen who claimed the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge trophy at the Konopiste Resort.
Nuutinen is joined by three other tournament winners from this season, England’s Rachael Goodall, Nina Pegova of Russia and Spain’s Laura Gomez Ruiz.
Goodall became a 2nd time winner on LETAS with her impressive win at the Ribeira Sacra Patrimonio de la Humanidad International Ladies Open, which included a second round 61, nine under par.
Pegova has had a mixed year to date, playing in four LET events and recording two missed cuts and a best finish of tied 44th in Australia at the NSW Open in March. The Russian has also missed three out of eight cuts on LETAS, besides a third place finish at the Montauban Ladies Open and her first win on tour at the Viaplay Ladies Finnish Open.
Gomez Ruiz is in the most consistent form this year. The 23-year-old from Marbella opened the season with a tied 11th place at the VP Bank Ladies Open in Switzerland. Just one missed cut at the Skafto Open has been the only blemish on an impressive first full season as a professional. Since winning the Montauban Ladies Open in June, the Spanish player has recorded three more top ten finishes.
Thirty-two Swedish professionals will compete including past LET and LPGA winner Catrin Nilsmark. In addition, there will be 26 elite amateurs from Sweden, Norway, Germany and the Czech Republic.
Other players to watch will be England’s Hayley Davis, currently lying in 3rd place on the LETAS rankings, and just over 1,400 order of merit points behind the leader Nuutinen. Chloe Williams of Wales has also put herself in contention on a number of occasions this year, and for both Davis and Williams, that first illusive win shouldn’t be too far away.
Play gets underway at 8.30 on Thursday morning from the 1st and 9th tees.
