Nilsson Makes It Four at Belfius Ladies Open

Sweden’s Emma Nilsson recorded her fourth LETAS win at the Belfius Ladies Open on Saturday, with a final round of 71 and a three shot victory.

The 24-year-old knew that she needed a solid final day on the challenging Royal Bercuit Golf Course to claim the title, with accuracy from the tee a necessity.

“I was leading by one but I knew it could be a course where you could play low, or it could be high like if you hit it straight then it could be low. So I thought I would need quite a low round so I just did my best and played quite aggressive and it turned out well.”

Nilsson started strongly with birdies on the 1st and 4th holes but a lapse just before the turn, produced a double bogey on the 7th and bogeys on both the 8th and 9th, to bring the Swede back to the rest of the field. A strong finish with three birdies in the last six holes, enabled her to pull away from the rest of the field.

Nilsson’s fourth win was a real family affair with her mum, Marie-Louise and father, Stefan both on caddying duties during the week. Marie-Louise caddied for the first two rounds and then Stefan took over for the final day. Nilsson’s sister, Sarah, also plays regularly on the LET Access Series, so to have her whole family around to be part of her win was very special for the Swede.

“It was very nice because I have three wins before this and it’s always like either my mom or my dad being there so the whole family being here was really nice on the 18th green. My dad knows a little bit more about golf so he can help me with club choices and green reading and stuff so my mom was happy with that, and walking around and looking,” Nilsson commented.

France’s Julie Aime (70) and Manon Molle (72) tied for second place at two under par, the best finish for both players on the LET Access Series.

Switzerland’s Kim Metraux (70) and Lucrezia Colombotto Rosso (70) finished in a tie for fourth place at one par, 215 total.

The LET Access Series now moves to Spain for the Ribeira Sacra Patrimonio de la Humanidad International Ladies Open at Augas Santas Balneario & Golf Resort, which takes place from the 4 – 6 July.
