Denmark’s Daisy Nielsen takes a three shot lead into the 2nd round of the CitizenGuard LETAS Trophy after an impressive opening 67, 6 under par, at Royal Waterloo Golf Club in Lasne, Belgium.
Nielsen teed off from the 10th hole, bogeying the 12th before a string of birdies from the 15th to the 18th holes put the 22-year-old in contention at 3 under par. Further birdies on the 2nd, 5th and 8th took Nielsen past the early on course leader Anne Van Dam from the Netherlands.
Van Dam also birdied the 15th, 17th and 18th, along with an eagle on the 16th to move to 5 under par. The 20-year-old from Arnhem then faltered slightly on her back nine with a double bogey on the 4th and a bogey on her penultimate hole, to finish at 3 under par and in a tie with six other players.
Nielsen was delighted with her first day’s play, crediting her putting for her low score.
“I putted very well and my short game was very good. I didn’t really hit great shots but decent shots and good putting. I’m looking forward to tomorrow, I am just going to go out and try to improve my shots and keep doing what I do and hopefully improve a little bit.”
Play gets underway at 8.00 for the second round.
