In 2022, Swedish amateur Meja Örtengren stormed to success at the PGA Championship Trelleborg after defeating Netherland’s professional Zhen Bontan in a two-hole playoff.
Now the 20-year-old, who is from Linkoping, is hoping to capture her second LETAS victory at home.
Speaking ahead of this week, Örtengren said: “I am very excited to be at home again after a year in the US and even more excited to play at my home course. It’s been a while since I last played a tournament at home so it will be a lot of fun.
Örtengren currently sits 13th on the Women’s Amateur Golf Rankings and recently ranked 10th individually at the NCAA Division 1 Women’s National Championship in the United States.
The Stanford player made her international LET debut at the 2024 Amundi German Masters, where she sat in second place after the first round, and was the only other amateur to make the cut, alongside Helen Briem.
“I am enjoying my time at Stanford. We’ve had an amazing team this year, and I’ve really been pushed every day to get better. The environment is great over there and I am impressed by my teammates every day.
“My dream (for college) is to win a national championship with the team and individually and hopefully get to play a major in the next few years!”
Örtengren is excited to play on both courses, both her home courses and is hoping for her second win at a professional tournament.
“They are obviously very different, and I really like the challenge of adapting our games to each course. I love Vasterby, I have always enjoyed playing there even though it can be a real test if the wind is up. Masters is more of a straightforward course where you can go low. So, I really enjoy the mix of the two.
“It would be amazing to win it a second time, and even more special to do it at home. I’ve spent so many days practicing here so to win would be very nice!”
Örtengren tees it up at 8:25am alongside Australia’s Stephanie Bunque and Finland’s Anna Backman.
