Heather Macrae
Scotland’s Heather Macrae took a step closer to the Ladies European Tour today in the first round of the Mineks Ladies Classic at National Golf Club in Turkey. Much is at stake for the players in the field this week, as this event will decide the final exemptions for the Ladies European Tour next season.
A strong finish will guarantee her a place on the Ladies European tour next season. Currently lying in 5th position on the LETAS Order of Merit, Macrae took advantage of the calm, sunny and warm conditions.
The young Scot was bogey free at 6 under par, before approaching the tough par four 17th hole, before she found trouble from the tee and had to settle for a double bogey, sealing a 69, four under for the day.
Fellow Scot Katy McNicoll, who has endured a tough year after just missing out on her LET card last season, opened with 71, 2 under par and she was joined on that score by Denmark’s Julie Tvede. Both McNicoll and Tvede are looking for strong finishes this week to avoid the first stage of the LET Tour School.
Italy’s Elisabetta Bertini and Caroline Martens from Norway are well placed at one under par, 72, both players are still in a position to earn their LET credentials with a strong finish this week.
The second round will commence at 8.00am on Friday morning, with a cut after 36 holes to the top 25 professionals and ties.
