MACDONALD HAPPY TO RETURN TO LAVAUX WITH GOOD MEMORIES

Scotland’s Gabrielle Macdonald is happy to return to Golf de Lavaux, where she won the 2021 edition of the tournament.

The course is full of great memories for the Scot and the site of her last professional win, where she secured victory in a play-off against England’s Gemma Clews after one hole.

Speaking ahead of this week, Macdonald said: “I’m very excited for this week. I have good memories here of winning in 2021. So, it’s nice to be back and it’s a great venue.

“It’s great scenery with the mountains and they really look after us here as well.”

The 31-year-old from Edinburgh is the only previous champion in the field and is excited to use that to her advantage.

“I’ve been talking about when I won in the Pro-Am. It’s so nice to recall good shots and good memories.

“Having the experience of knowing how the course plays always helps. Having a venue I look forward to hopefully helps my game.”

2024 has not been an easy season for Macdonald who has faced injury, gone through surgery and missed seven cuts.

“It’s been a difficult year. I haven’t played that well and I had an injury as well.”

Last week, despite a struggle in round one, Macdonald fought back to finish her final round with four consecutive birdies, play which has left the Scotswoman feeling more confident in her game

“It was nice to have a good finish last week and hopefully we can continue more of that golf this week.

“By the end of the season I want to have more confidence because it’s been a tough year mentally. I just want to enjoy the last two events here.”

Macdonald tees it up at 12:30 local time alongside Spain’s Amaia Latorre and Italy’s Emma Lundgren.
