LIGNELL LEAPS INTO LEAD AFTER DAY TWO IN SLOVAKIA

Lignell

Sweden’s Andrea Lignell had a phenomenal second day of 66 (-6) to hold a one-shot lead heading into the final round of the Ladies Slovak Golf Open.

After carding a round of par yesterday, Lignell elevated her game today to produce a stunning second round featuring one bogey, five birdies, and an eagle.

Speaking about how she approached second day, Lignell said: “My mindset today was to try and put a good swing on every shot. I have been struggling with putting so I was hoping for good speed and for them to go in. They did.”

This is Lignell’s first time competing in Slovakia, an experience which has surpassed all her expectations.

“I enjoy this course. I didn’t come here last year because I thought it was just out in the middle of nowhere, but I asked my friends, and they said it was great.

“However, it’s the toughest course I have every walked. My home course, which we are playing next week on the LET is hilly. Its literally called the Hills but this one is worse. It’s in great condition though.”

Lignell is teeing it up next week on the LET after receiving an invite to the Hills Open, held at her home golf course. This is Lignell’s second time leading after the second round this season. The first was at the Swedish Strokeplay which she went on to win by one shot.

“Tomorrow, I want to commit to every shot and hit the putts with good speed. My plan was to take a week off before the LET next week, but I find it easier to play your way into good form.”

2025 started as a struggle for Lignell.  Yet after her win almost two months ago, the Ole Miss alumni found her form to not miss another cut.

“I feel different compared to a month ago. I feel I have found myself again and found my swing so I’m just trying to build on the momentum that I have.”

The 24-year-old currently sits 10th on the LETAS Order of Merit and will be playing for all the points she can get tomorrow to surge herself up the rankings to earn an LET card for 2026.

Most of Slovakia’s hopes for a home win are now pinned on Katarina Drocarova who sits one shot off the lead on five-under-par.

Two steady rounds of 69 and 70 placed the 24-year-old second for two consecutive days.

Speaking about her second round, Drocarova said: “Today went like yesterday. I hit the ball well. I thought I made a few small mistakes, which cost me a few shots, but I was able to get them back on other holes.

“In the middle of the run, I was a bit frustrated because I missed a few short putts for birdies, but then in the last six holes I played well and in the last three holes I was like, okay, like, I still can make one or two birdies. So, with that mindset, I went for it, and I hit it well and ended up with two birdies, which helped a lot.”

This tournament marks a year since Drocarova made her professional debut at the 2024 edition of the Ladies Slovak Golf Open. Last year she finished tied seventh.

“I like the chase. I’m excited for tomorrow. It will mean a lot to be in the final group of course there will be certain pressure out there, but I’ll try to stay calm and just play one shot at a time.”

One thing is for certain and that is Drocarova will have the biggest cheers when her birdie putts go in tomorrow.

Drocarova joined the Tour in 2024 and made the cut in all four events she played, including two top 10 finishes. 2025 has been more difficult for the Slovak but she previously spoke about using this tournament as a turning point.

“Hopefully my boyfriend and his family will come tomorrow, so I’m excited for that, for sure.

“It’s nice when they clap like, of course, this is a hilly golf course, so most of the time you cannot even see where your ball ends up, so it’s, like when they clap you know you are okay, I’m fine.

“They’re now really into it.
So, they’re so excited. I’m like, okay, just calm down we’re not done yet. But it’s nice to have them out there.”

Ready for a chase tomorrow is England’s Gemma Clews who currently sits fourth on the LETAS Order of Merit.

After two consistent rounds of 70, Clews is used to coming from behind demonstrated by her win earlier this season in May at the Allegria Ladies Open.

“It’s my first time here and the course is nice. It’s in a great condition. I have two good friends out with me this week, so we are having a good time, enjoying it and the golf has been good.”

Clews is accompanied by her friend Sophie Beardsall on the bag this week so is hoping she can give her something to celebrate.

“Obviously winning is hard. It would mean a lot to get a second win especially as I came close with a playoff in Czech since Austria. It will be nice to get it over the line again.

“On this golf course I would prefer to chase. So, I think if I can get a fast start tomorrow and we will just see what happens.”

Joining Clews on four-under-par is Finland’s Anna Backman who has had two great days of 69 and 71.

Czechia’s Tereza Melecka sits solo fifth on three under par after two solid rounds of 70 and 71.

Two players are tied for sixth on two-under-par. Slovakia’s Anika Bolcikova and Czechia’s Jana Melichova.

55 players made the cut which stood at +8.

The final round begins at 7:45am with the leaders going out at 9:15.
