One month ago, after a phenomenal opening round of 64 (-9), Sweden’s Andrea Lignell secured a wire-to-wire victory to claim her first professional title at the Swedish Strokeplay Championship by Dormy Future Stars.
Now she’s excited to return to Gränna Golf Club for another week on home soil.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Lignell said:“It’s nice to be back. I drove up yesterday from home since I played last year I thought I would just play the Pro-Am.
“With the wind today, I would say it played longer yet the course is in better condition than last year. So, I’m excited.”
Lignell performed well at Gränna last season where she finished tied 16th after a final round of 68.
“I haven’t thought about last year but it helps that I can shoot low on this course which always helps I think.”
Since the win, Lignell is yet to miss a cut but has yet to break into the top 20 again. She currently sits ninth on the LETAS Order of Merit, two spots away from earning an LET card.
“Things have been good. Leading up to the win I wasn’t in the best place and then with the win it helped me to gain momentum.
“I feel happy with where my game is at. I haven’t seen the results that I wanted to but I’m happy with the progress I’m making.”
Playing at home has come at the right time for the 24-year-old who relishes playing in Sweden.
“I do love being near home, so I just always feel a bit more excited to play golf when I’m in Sweden.
“My whole family is on vacation so no one will be here but I’m staying with Louise Rydqvist who lives close to here, which is nice.
“I feel like tomorrow I need to have a good attitude, stay extra patient.
“A normal round requires a lot of energy for me nowadays, but I will need to have more energy tomorrow. It will be a tough day in the wind so I will just find a good feeling and good tempo in my swing.”
Lignell tees it up at 12:16 local time alongside England’s Charlotte Heath who leads the rookie of the year rankings and Spain’s Amaia Latorre.
The Ahlsell Trophy by Destination Jonkoping takes place 6-8 August at Granna Golfklubb.
