LETH-NISSEN SISTER TRIO EXCITED TO BE TEEING IT UP AT HOME

This week is a big week for the Leth-Nissen sisters as they prepare to tee it up once again at their home course, Smorum Golf Club.

Cecilie, Amalie and Sofie will all be competing in this year’s edition of the 2024 Smorum Ladies Open, an event Cecilie won in 2022. Amalie finished runner-up.

Yet that is not the only storyline as the oldest sister, Cecilie has just turned professional after two years of competing on the tour as an amateur.

Amalie said: “I think it’s really lovely to stay at home and sleep in your own bed, knowing the course helps, it’s obviously set up differently, but I would say it still gives you an advantage.”

Cecilie added: “It’s amazing having the support of the crowd, family and locals from the golf course.

“Of course, it adds pressure because you want to do well but I also feel like it adds security. You know the people around you want the best for you.”

The Leth-Nissen’s will have plenty of familiar faces in the crowd, with their parents, grandparents and friends coming out to support.

Amalie said: “It’s lovely to have that because when we play around Europe, you don’t have anyone except each other.”

Speaking about her transition to turning professional, Cecilie said: “I feel like I’ve been ready to turn professional for a while. Now it’s just the perfect time to do it.”

Amalie is also super excited for her older sister to finally join her in the professional ranks.

“It was unusual that I was the younger sister and turned professional first. We’ve been in different stages for the last three years.

“But now that we are both professional, I think it is cool. I think now we can travel even more together and hopefully use it as an advantage.

“It is fantastic having a sister on tour because you always have someone on your team wherever you are.”

Cecilie added: “Yes we want the other to do well but we still want to be the one to do better.”

21-year-old Cecilie has had the stronger season on tour so far and currently sits 15th on the LETAS Order of Merit, thanks to a tied third position at the Santander Golf Tour-Avila. (SGT)

19-year-old Amalie sits 41st and is yet to miss a cut, with her best result being tied seventh at the SGT event.

Speaking about her game Cecilie said: “I feel like my game has got better and better over the season. I’m feeling positive and ready to take the next step here at home.”

Amalie, who played solely on the LET last year, said: “I had a tough year last year with some swing changes, but I feel now I am both mentally and physical stronger.

“My game is getting better and better so I’m just focussed on the process and hopeful that in the next month we will see some strong results.”

Both sisters start their campaign to be crowned a home champion tomorrow morning, with Cecilie heading out at 8:40am and Amalie at 8:50 with younger sister and amateur Sofie heading out at 8:25am on tee 10.
