Denmark’s Amalie Leth-Nissen, the current LETAS Order of Merit leader, is excited to be competing at home this week for the Q-Tour Himmerland Championship presented by Sand Spedition.
The Dane has led the Order of Merit for a prolonged part of the season after securing her debut professional win at the Terre Blanche Ladies Open.
Speaking about what it means to have this event, Leth-Nissen said: “It’s nice to be in Denmark and play here. Especially on this course because it’s one of the best courses in Denmark.
“So I feel really honoured to play a tournament here and in my home country.”
This is not Leth-Nissen’s first visit to Himmerland Golf Resort as she has attended national training camps with the Danish team here on a few occasions.
“I’m familiar with the course. I really like it. I think it’s a great test and a world class golf course.
“I’m still working with some things in my game. It’s windy out here so you have to be able to handle your game pretty well, but I feel good about my game and I just want to keep working hard.”
It’s been a fantastic season for Leth-Nissen who has carded two runner-up finishes and two more top 10s after her first win. Despite many eyes on Leth-Nissen to produce another solid result, the Dane is not feeling the pressure.
Instead, the 20-year-old from Smorum GolfKlub, is focussing on improving her game and using this week to work alongside her coach and enjoy the comforts which come from playing at home.
“I’ve thought about it, and I don’t really feel the pressure because it’s at home. You want to do good for the home crowd but for me at this point the most important thing is just to keep focusing on myself and improving my game.
“This resort is quite far away from where I live, but I brought my mum again and my dad. My coaches are also coming which is a privilege of being home.
“This week is a good opportunity to work with my coaches. So, I think that’s the main goal is for them to see how I play in competition and what we can work on next.”
Leth-Nissen tees it up at 13:08 local time alongside last year’s Order of Merit winner Kajsa Arwefjall and Australia’s Justice Bosio.
The Q-Tour Himmerland Championship begins on Thursday July 31 and concludes on Saturday 2 August.
