Denmark’s Amalie Leth-Nissen heads into the final day at Sherike Golfklubb with a two-shot lead after carding rounds of 68 and 65.
The Dane put on an impressive show rolling in five birdies and one bogey to position herself at the top of the leaderboard, a place Leth-Nissen is familiar with this season.
Speaking about her second round, Leth-Nissen said: “My game was solid, and my putting was good. I was good at making it all stick together out there today. It was a great morning with nice weather.
“I think the condition of the course is really good and even though there are some challenging holes it is also possible to score low and that’s shown in the scorecard today.”
Leth-Nissen has had an excellent season on LETAS where she started strongly by clinching victory at the season opener, the Terre Blanche Ladies Open. She currently sits second on the LETAS Order of Merit.
210.87 points currently divide Leth-Nissen from the leader Austria’s Katharina Muehlbauer, with the latter having won the PGA of Sweden Championship where Leth-Nissen took a week off.
Speaking about her decision to miss the tournament, Leth-Nissen said: “Most of all the break was to be at home when my two younger sisters finished high school. I am not that much at home, so it was great to be there for them and celebrate as a family together.”
Leth-Nissen is looking to stay at the top of the leaderboard by end of play tomorrow, but her goal is to put in three good rounds under par.
“I think everybody wants to be on the top of the Order of merit, but my main goal is to be more consistent and be better at handling the challenges that I face on the golf course.”
Overnight leader Ragga Kristinsdottir sits in second place after carding a round of 70 (-2).
It was a slower start for the Icelandic player, who was playing in the afternoon flight, with three bogeys in her first four holes, but Kristinsdottir found her form and fired six birdies and one more bogey to put pressure on Leth-Nissen going into final day.
“It just took a little while to settle into the round and figure out the wind as it was gusting quite a bit. Honestly a very similar feeling to yesterday I didn’t hit as many fairways today but was never really in any trouble if you take away the 10th.
“The back nine was more similar to yesterday, I gave myself plenty of good looks and made three good birdies coming in.”
Kristinsdottir came into this event having finished runner-up at last week’s Swedish Strokeplay Championship, her highest ever finish on LETAS. Now the 27-year-old is looking to clinch her first professional victory,
“I want to just stick to my game plan; it has got me this far. I want to be aggressive on the par 5’s and the shorter par 4’s and based on how I’m putting these past few weeks, I’m very confident as soon as I get the flatstick in hand.”
Sweden’s Isabel Ekstrom leads the home charge and sits tied third alongside Mexico’s Fernanda Lira on eight-under-par.
It was a troubling start for Ekstrom who left her 50 degree and pitching wedge accidentally at home, but undeterred she borrowed a 50 degree from the pro shop and birdied with it straight away.
“I need to work a little bit with my tee shots for tomorrow but other than that just continue doing the same things as the first two days. I prefer a final day chase so tomorrow will be fun!”
Meanwhile Lira had an almost faultless day following up yesterday’s round of 67(-5) with a 69 (-3) and only had one mistake on the par five 17th.
Lira said: “I’m very happy with the round today. I think I have a good strategy for the course and I’m glad to see that reflected in the results.
“I like a chase. I’m looking forward to being back in contention again this year. It does mean a lot to have my name on the leaderboard. I am comfortable with it and enjoying the moment.”
France’s Charlotte Liautier sits solo fifth on seven-under-par whilst Sweden’s Lovisa Gunnar and England’s Thalia Martin sit one shot back.
Gunnar broke the course record today after carding a phenomenal faultless round of 63(-9) to climb 63 positions up the leaderboard.
56 payers made the cut which stood at +2. The final round begins at 8am local time with the leaders going out at 9:39 local time.
