LETAS TO TRAVEL TO MOROCCO FOR THE FIRST TIME

Morocco

This season the LET Access Series (LETAS) is scheduled to visit two new countries, including Morocco, marking the first time LETAS has left Europe.

Between April 25-27, LETAS will travel to the north of Morocco to the stunning coastal course of Golf Lacs Saidia for the Madaefs Golf Ladies Open by Saidia Resorts.

The Lacs course was the first golf course to be opened in Saidia, Morocco and was designed by Spanish architect Francisco Ségales to give pride of place to water obstacles.

The course itself was built in the image of championship courses in the United States, so will provide a great test to LETAS players.

Leaving Europe for the first time is an exciting prospect for LETAS players but to have a tournament held in your home country is always something very special.

Proud Moroccan and LETAS Tour player, Lina Belmati said: “Playing in my home country is incredibly special, I have been doing that a lot lately, and I love it. It doesn’t get any less special, Q-school in Marrakech, Lalla Meryem Cup in Rabat and now LETAS in Saïdia.

“It fills me with so much pride to see Morocco hosting more and more events. It’s amazing to witness how the country is embracing golf and how much interest there is in the sport, and I’m grateful to be a part of it!”

Belmati was a tennis player from the age of four but switched to golf at the age of 14 before turning professional in 2020. Since then, she has played across both the Ladies European Tour (LET) and LETAS.

Reflecting on LETAS leaving Europe for the first time, Belmati explained: “I think it’s such a great sign of how women’s golf is growing globally, it shows that the sport is breaking boundaries and reaching beyond Europe, bringing together players from different corners of the world.

“The fact that LETAS is coming to Morocco and it will be the first time outside of Europe is a huge honour, and it’s a great reflection of the incredible work that’s been done here.

“Thanks to the vision of His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, President of the (FRMG) Royal Moroccan Federation of Golf, we’re seeing golf become more inclusive and accessible to players, this is another massive step forward.”

On a personal level, the 28-year-old is so excited for the event to take place in April. She added: “I am excited to compete and perform in front of a home crowd, it’s a mix of excitement, comfort, and nerves, but that what makes it special!

“I absolutely love the opportunity to share my culture with others. It’s such a joy to introduce players to the beauty of Morocco, its traditions, and its hospitality.

“I’m excited for everyone that has not been here yet to discover what makes it so special.

“Fun fact I’ve never played on that course before, it’s a six-hour drive from home, and I’ve always wanted to visit. I guess LETAS is giving me the perfect excuse to finally discover more of my own country!”

Malak Boureada, who was born in St. Louis, Missouri chose to play under the Moroccan flag and represent her father’s homeland of Morocco.

Boureada, who turned professional in 2024, is also excited to tee it up in her home country. She said: “I’m excited to have a Moroccan event on the schedule for this season.

“The game of golf is growing rapidly in Morocco, and I am really looking forward to that event. It’s special being able to play at home!”

“I think it attributes to not only the growth of golf in Morocco but the efforts of LETAS to bring an event to our beautiful country. Morocco has so much to offer and is great to see the efforts of so many come to fruition.

“I haven’t spent much time up in the north playing so I’m really looking forward to experiencing another part of home. I think it will be an amazing week, and I can’t wait!”
