Laing holds one-shot advantage

Scotland’s Vikki Laing fired her lowest round of the year to lead the Foxconn Czech Ladies Challenge by one. On the par 71 Casa Serena course, Laing shot a 67, which included five birdies against a lone bogey. Six others are tied for second place at three-under 68.

In her words, the round was routine. “It was quite a boring round, with many fairways and greens hit. The course is nice, and I made some putts. Though the weather was warm, I was happy to play a round like that.”

The Scotswoman who turned professional in 2003, has multiple runner-up finishes on the LET where she has 151 starts. Her last top-five finish came at the 2016 Fatima Fint Mubarak Ladies Open where she finished T5. The veteran’s only start on the LETAS this year is the Jabra Ladies Open where she missed the cut.

In the midst of the professionals tied for second place is Czech Amateur Kristyna Frydlova. Starting on the back nine, she made three birdies in seven holes but made the turn at one-under courtesy of two bogeys. On the front nine, two birdies sandwiched two bogeys before she finished with back-to-back birdies to bring home a 68.

Speaking after her round, the Czech student who will move to the United States later this fall for college credited her iron play for the good play.

“I was hitting greens very well. It was almost as if I did not have to use my short game around the greens today.”

As far as conditions were concerned, Frydlova says, “With soft greens and almost no wind – the course was gettable.”
She has two identical T37 finishes in previous events on the LETAS.

Others at three-under are Clara Pietri (Switzerland), Valdis Thora Jonsdottir (Iceland), Nina Muehl (Austria), Elia Folch and Maria Palacios (both from Spain).

26 players shot under par rounds while 16 brought back scores of even par.

Czech Karolia VIckova made her professional debut shoot an opening 71 and is currently tied for 27th place.

The € 40,000 Foxconn Czech Ladies Challenge is being held in Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic from the 22nd and 24th of June.
