Iceland’s Olafia Kristinsdottir holds a one shot lead going into the final day of the ASGI Ladies Open at Gams-Werdenberg GC, near Zurich in Switzerland.
The LETAS rookie shot a second round 66, for a 36-hole total of 8 under par, 134, which included two eagles on the 4th and the 18th hole, where Kristinsdottir holed her shot from the greenside bunker. The Wake Forest University graduate, playing in just her 4th event as a professional, is using her first year on LETAS to gain some experience and is looking forward to the final day.
“The first few tournaments were a bit stressful but I’m just taking this year as gaining experience, I’m just learning how to play here. I’ll just to do everything the same tomorrow and not think about it too much.”
Tied for second place are German amateur Olivia Cowan, who shot 66 to finish on a total of 6 under par, and fellow countrywoman Nicole Goegele, who recorded a second consecutive 69, for a 138 total.
Cowan, the 2014 Portuguese and Spanish Amateur champion, will combine the amateur schedule with LETAS this season in a bid to earn her Ladies European Tour card via the LETAS Order of Merit ranking. The 19-year-old has already shown strong form this year, leading the Open Generali de Dinard after the first round and going on to finish in a tie for 9th place.
Goegele, who received an invitation to play this week, has recently returned to competitive golf after leaving the Ladies European Tour to have a family. The 40-year-old is looking for a strong finish in the final round to gain automatic entry into further LETAS events this season.
Swiss amateur Azelia Meichtry (66) and Malaysia’s Ainil Bakar (69) are tied at 5 under par in 4th place, with Johanna Gustavsson a further shot back, occupying 6th position.
Forty professionals and five amateurs made the cut, which fell at +6. Tomorrow’s final round will commence at 8.30am.
