KOUSKOVA LEADS THE WAY HEADING INTO FINAL ROUND

Czech amateur Sara Kouskova fired another spectacular round, this time 67 (-5), on day two of the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge and leads the opening event of the 2021 LETAS season by seven shots.

The local star extended her lead by another shot and sits at the top of the leaderboard at –13 with Russia’s Nina Pegova in second place, after she carded 67 (-5) today.

Kouskova had a strong start with a birdie on the par-five 1st and kept the pars rolling in until the par-three 10th .

“I felt really good on the course today, the front nine was very stable and the birdie on the first put me in a good mood,” admitted the Czech number one.

She added her second eagle of the tournament on the par-five 14th but dropped the two shots with a four-putt double bogey on 15th

She explained: “The back nine was better yet again, even though I made the double bogey on the same hole I made an eagle yesterday.”

The leading player has had two amazing days at Golf Resort Konopiste with more people arriving to the resort to cheer her and other Czech players on.

“I plan to continue doing everything the same way I have until now. I am going to go out there and just play golf,” she added.

Nina Pegova is sitting in second place at -6 after firing a great round of 67. She started her second round with an eagle on the par-five 1st and added five more birdies throughout the round.

“Today I tried to aim as close at the pin as possible. On the first hole I did this and ended up with a short eagle putt and had a few more great shots that ended up really close to the hole,” said Pegova. “I am enjoying my time in the Czech Republic, I like everything here; the weather, the course and the resort.”

Five players are three shots back at three-under-par including Germany’s Verena Gimmy, who was among the five golfers who shot the day’s best score, 67 (-5), with five birdies and a clean scorecard.

Gimmy shares T3 on the leaderboard with Sweden’s Linda Lundqvist, Scotland’s Gabrielle Macdonald, and Czech amateurs Patricie Mackova and Tereza Melecka.

In the top ten is young Czech amateur and wild card holder Klara Sionkova. The 15-year-old shot a two-under-par 70 in today’s round and is T9 at one-under-par.

“I was a bit nervous in the first round, but felt much better today,” said the youngest player in the field. “I am just going to focus on my game and have fun on the course. I am really happy with how I have performed so far.”
