KIBSGAARD NIELSEN SECURES SECOND LETAS VICTORY IN SWEDEN

Kibsgaard Nielsen

Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen won a three-way play-off to take victory at the Capio Ogon Trophy and her second LETAS title this season.

The 24-year-old started the day on one-over-par but had a fantastic final round at Uppsala GolfKlubb.

The LETAS rookie carded three birdies and one bogey on her front nine and one birdie and a bogey on the front to finish on one under par.

This gave our Order of Merit leader a chance of winning, a chance she embraced by rolling in a birdie on the first play-off hole to swiftly defeat runners-up and final day leaders, Scotland’s Hannah McCook, and fellow Danish amateur Natacha Host Husted

Speaking about her win, Kibsgaard Nielsen said: “It means a lot to me to get my second win this season.

“I’ve worked very hard to improve some part of my game the last couple of weeks, and it feels good to finally see it come together again.

“I’m just very proud and happy with this result.”

Kibsgaard Nielsen is no stranger to a play-off on LETAS having lost out to France’s Lucie Andre in Spain at the start of this season so admits it feels extra special to win it this time.

“I’ve tried a play-off many times now and I tried to stay calm through the hole.

“When I had the 10-foot putt to win I had to trust my read and just enjoy the feelings I had.

“It’s so important to me that I take it all in and stay in the present.”

It’s been a two-week stint for our golfers in Sweden on the Ahlsell Nordic Golf Tour and Kibsgaard Nielsen is happy to have improved on last week at Vasteras where she came 14th

“I didn’t play my best the first week, but I tried to work on some stuff, especially off the tee, and I feel like it’s finally where I want it to be.

“I’ve hit my driver very well this week and it just gives me confidence.

“I like to play in Sweden and play the courses here.”

Kibsgaard Nielsen has dominated the season as the current leader of the LETAS Order of Merit and LETAS Rookie of the Year list with 1607.58 points after placing second at two tournaments, the Flumserberg Ladies Open and Santander Golf Tour-Girona and now two wins in France and Sweden.

In joint second place was our overnight leaders Hannah McCook, and Danish amateur Natacha Host Husted.

Husted had a difficult final round carding 74 (+2) with three bogeys but she secured herself a spot in the play-off after firing up the flatstick to roll in a birdie on the 18th

Meanwhile, McCook had a rollercoaster of a round, starting off with a bogey she brought it back with two birdies on holes two and four.

However, at the turn, the 29-year-old from Nethy Bridge struggled with a double bogey on hole nine and bogeys on both ten and eleven but a birdie on the 13th gave her a chance to win.

Elsewhere, Swedish amateur Elin Pudas Remler carded round of 73, 73 and 71 to sit in solo fourth place.

Switzerland’s Elena Moosmann moved up 11 places to sit in joint fifth with Netherland’s Zhen Bontan on two over par.

Meanwhile five players sit in seventh position on three over-par: Sweden’s Alicia Olsson, Emma Thorngren and Corrine Viden, England’s Gemma Clews and Finland’s Emily Penttila.

Our golfers now have just over one week to rest before the next LETAS events in England.
