Two years ago, on the LET Access Series (LETAS), Denmark’s Sofie Kibsgaard Nielsen had a phenomenal year.
It was Danish domination as soon as the rookie joined the Tour as Kibsgaard Nielsen led the Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year rankings since the third tournament.
The 2023 Rookie of the Year and Order of Merit winner was able to clinch her LET card after three victories and has played on that Tour solely since.
Taking advantage of a major week on the LET, the Dane returns to where her professional journey began to compete in her home country at the Q-Tour Himmerland Championship presented by Sand Spedition.
Speaking about a special week at home, Kibsgaard Nielsen said: “This tournament means a lot as Denmark is not a big country. I’m so excited to be in Himmerland and give it another try on LETAS.
“I want to have fun this week. I have my family and my sponsors coming out so I’m very excited.
“They know how to have big tournaments and host events here.”
The Himmerland Resort is one of Denmark’s finest courses and has previously hosted the DP World for eight years.
Kibsgaard Nielsen came to watch the men play and is excited to get her chance to tee it up at a professional tournament here.
“The course is going to be in a great condition. I played here a long time ago, but I don’t even remember what year it was. A lot has happened since then. I watched the men play here so I’m excited that it’s now my time.
“The course is challenging. When its windy the holes get longer and the rough is in play. But its challenging in a good way. It’s a solid course and I think there’s a lot of opportunities out there. You must have you’re A game out here.”
The 26-year-old struggled on the LET in 2024 but 2025 has been promising. The Dane currently sits 61st after making eight cuts in a row, with a highest finish of 19th at the Dutch Ladies Open.
“2025 has been a better year for me. I’ve played well and I’m excited to stay on the LET and play a lot of the tournaments left.”
Five weeks on a row in the LET took its toll for Kibsgaard Nielsen who has struggled with a small injury to her knee, but the Dane is excited to back in competition mode.
“I’m obviously here to win. I’ve had one week off and got some practice in. I’m ready to get into competition mode again. I played a lot of golf, five weeks in a row so the knee was not doing well.
“This is the first week where I’m playing 18 and walking 18 but I’m feeling confident. It’s a small injury and I know this week will be great.”
The Q-Tour Himmerland Championship begins on Thursday July 31 and concludes on Saturday 2 August.
