KEH LEADS AT THE END OF DAY ONE IN SLOVAKIA

Wenyung Keh

Wenyung Keh fired an opening round of 66 (-6) to climb to the top of the leaderboard at the end of the first day of the Ladies Slovak Golf Open.

The New Zealander, who started her day from the 10th tee, rolled in birdies on 11, 13, 15 and 18 with her only dropped shot coming at the 14th hole.

Keh had a great back nine with birdies on the first, fourth and ninth hole at TALE Ski Golf & Hotel Resort to sign for a round of six-under-par.

“It was good,” said Keh. “I had good playing partners; it was pretty chill and relaxed. I almost holed out on my last hole and also on another par-five, so that was good. It was just good ball-striking today.

“This season has been a grind just trying to get my game together and you hit that point where you stop being so attached to results and just play.

“It’s a lot easier having travelling having my sister with me, when we’re sad or lonely at least she’s there.”

Sweden’s Louisa Carlbom sits in second place on the leaderboard after she produced a round of 67 (-5).

The 22-year-old from Gothenberg also only dropped one shot on the first day rolling in six birdies in Slovakia.

“It was very stable,” said the Swede. “I had a lot of chances for birdie, a lot of short birdie putts which was really nice to make a few in the first couple of holes.

“That was a nice start. I hit some solid tee shots which have been a little bit of trouble for me before, but I got that good today.

“I think just being patient because you can get some really weird putts. The downhill ones are superfast and the uphill ones, I feel like I can’t even get to the hole sometimes. Just staying patient and keep doing your routine.

“I love travelling and I have been travelling a lot with Kajsa [Arwefjäll], my teammate. It’s been so nice seeing new places.”

Two shots further back in outright third place is Germany’s Helen Briem on three-under-par thanks to an eagle finish on the last.

The three-time LETAS winner, who recently turned professional, had four birdies, three bogeys and the eagle on her scorecard.

Six players sit in a share of fourth place with Italian amateur Anna Zanusso, France’s Lucie Malchirand, England’s Jess Baker, Slovakia’s Katarina Drocarova, Norway’s Tina Mazarino and Spain’s Maria Herraez Galvez all on two-under-par.

The second round will begin at 8 am (local time) and there will be a cut to the top 45 professionals and ties at the end of day two.
