Kym Larratt
England´s Kym Larratt enjoyed her best finish of the 2014 LETAS season, finishing in a tie for 10th place at the OCA Augas Santas International Ladies Open. Kym looks forward to the season ahead.
What is your approach to the 2014 season?
The ultimate goal is to get back onto the main tour and the best way to do that is to get one of the top five cards. If not, a top 20 and straight to final stage tour school is one of the best ways to get back up there. It would be great to get six starts on the main tour to be exempt from the order of merit but realistically I’ll be looking at doing well on the LETAS to get a full card.
You’ve struggled with injuries. Can you tell us what happened?
My left shoulder blade, in 2012, I was having some problems. In January I saw a physio back home in Leicester and in the end it was a muscular problem. You have four muscles that hold your shoulder down on your rib cage but two of them had given up. It was just over golf because I went to Australia and never stopped from 2011 to 2012 and in the end I had such an incredibly long swing that I was pulling the left shoulder blade off basically in my backswing. Instead of staying down, my shoulder blade wings and I’ve had to change my swing to help the shoulder but also get stronger so that I can make the swing changes. It’s taken a long time but I feel I’m coming back out on the other side now, so fingers crossed. It’s just getting the confidence back now. I feel the last year, I’ve really struggled confidence wise so I need to get out and score again. I feel much better now.
Your dad Bob Larratt used to caddie for you. Is he still coming out?
Those three years were great but it got to a point where he’d done as much as he could do and it’s now time for me to carry on by myself. He still helps but it’s just he’s let me go, I suppose!
Do you feel this could be your year?
Yes, I really do. I feel good and I had a good break and my last tournament was the LETAS event in Turkey. I didn’t go to tour school because I didn’t feel ready to compete. I took a long break and came back and feel much better. I hope to enjoy it and see what happens.
