Hou and McNicoll share first-round lead in Samso

Australia’s Corie Hou and Scotland’s Katy McNicoll were tied for the lead after the first round of the Samso Ladies Open on Thursday.

The pair ended level on three under par, after posting first rounds of 69 respectively in cool, wet conditions.

Danish amateur, Nicole Broch Larsen, currently ranked 20th in the world, shot an opening 70, along with France’s Marion Ricordeau who leads the LET Access Series Order of Merit, Sweden’s Antonella Cvitan and Denmark’s Monica Christiansen.

Hou, a member of the Australian Ladies’ Professional Tour (ALPG), posted five birdies against a pair of bogeys to take a share of the top position.  

The 24-year-old from Sydney, who recently graduated from the University of Hawaii with a degree in business finance, is enjoying a mini-tour of Europe to further her golfing travels and experiences.

She turned professional in 2010 and has a career best tie for seventh at the Power Ford Castle Hill CC Pro Am on the ALPG.

McNicoll, a professional golfer from Carnoustie in Scotland, had four birdies and one dropped shot at the par-five third hole.

The former Lynn University golfer is enjoying a sterling season on the LET Access Series and is ranked fifth on the order of merit after eight events played. The leading three players on the order of merit at the end of the LETAS  season will earn membership of the Ladies European Tour in 2013.
