HOLMEY EXCITED FOR LET DEBUT IN MOROCCO

After a successful year on the Ladies European Tour Access series (LETAS) last year, Lauren Holmey is excited to continue her professional journey on the LET’s 2023 season.

Last year was a big season for the 20-year-old Dutch golfer who won the Flumserberg Ladies Open Championship in Switzerland and tallied 1,620.30 points to finish fifth in the Order of Merit, and earn herself a place on Tour for the year ahead.

Having turned professional in early October last year, Holmey did not imagine she would be in this position playing at the Lalla Meryem Cup.

“At the start of the 2022 season I definitely did not imagine I would be here starting in Morocco on the LET now,” Holmey said.

“Not until the very last tournament did I think this is real, and think I have to hang on.

“I was really focused on the whole season on the tour, I played my best and I learnt a lot.”

Holmey’s first time on a golf course was at an early age thanks to her dad and she hasn’t looked back since.

My parents didn’t want to hire a nanny when I was younger so my dad would often drag me to the golf club with him to look at flowers and at some point I was just bored and picked up a club.

My dad bought me a couple of clubs and I just started and I have never really stopped.”

Holmey’s season gets underway in Morocco at the Lalla Meryem Cup, which is back after a four year hiatus.

Holmey will be playing alongside fellow 2022 LETAS graduates; Momoka Kobori, Sara Kouskova , Anna Magnusson, Chiara Noja and Patricia Isabel Schmidt

Her goals for the tournament are to play her game and enjoy the moment

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t very excited, its my very first tournament, I want to have fun and enjoy the moment

“I’m so thankful for the LETAS last year, they got me into the place I needed to be so quick, my growth has really accelerated thanks to the access series.”

Holmey’s highlight of LETAS was the summer and the opportunity to play six weeks in a row with back to back tournaments.

The Rose Ladies Open at the The Melbourne Club at Brocket Hall was Holmey’s favourite tournament, an event which will once again return to Brocket Hall at the earlier date of 7-9 September this year.

She continued: “I really enjoyed the Rose Ladies Open and appreciate what Justin Rose is doing for the game.”

But my whole time on the tour was amazing, the LETAS is just like one big family.”

“I’ve only played two tournaments as a professional, but I haven’t changed much in my practice routine.”

Just to play golf as a job is a blessing, every day is enjoyable because I am doing what I love.”
