McCOOK HOPING TO GO ONE BETTER THAN LAST YEAR AT MONTAUBAN

Scotland’s Hannah McCook came close to a LETAS victory at last year’s Montauban Ladies Open, ending the week as the runner-up on seven under par, three shots behind the winner New Zealand’s Momoka Kobori.

This year Aberdeen-born McCook is hoping to get her hands on the trophy she missed out on last year.

“I’m very excited for the week,” McCook said, “I have good memories from last year but I’m trying to not think about that too much as you don’t want to put all that expectation on yourself however, I do always want to do one better.”

Golf de Montauban L’Estang was opened in 2012 and designed by Yves Bureau and is a course which the 29-year-old from Nethy Bridge finds favourable.

“Personally, I like the course as each hole is quite different.  There are some which are wide open and some that are quite tight. It’s got everything!

“It’s quite bouncy in places but the greens are receptive. In fact, the greens are amazing, probably the best on tour so far this year, I would say.

“With this course, you need to find the fairway as the sand and rough is quite brutal in places. If you can hole putts that’s needed as the greens are slopy in places.”

McCook is currently ranked 20th in the LETAS Order of Merit with 199.50 points after three tournaments but won a three-way play-off thanks to an eagle at the first play-off hole to claim victory on the Rose Ladies Series at The Grove in Hertfordshire.

McCook, who is attached to Gleneagles said: “Going into this tournament I’ve just tried to play on a golf course as much as I can.

“I played Tartan Pro Tour in Scotland last week with all the guys just to have a card in my hand and have a purpose for three days.

“This season has been good so far, the first tournament went well, but my game has been inconsistent at times.

“I got the win at the Rose where everything came together. So, I know it’s there, it’s just about getting it all together for three days this time.

“To win would mean everything, winning the Rose event was amazing just to know that you can win as a professional and no-one will take that away from you

“So, to win on tour, when it’s three days and carries Order of Merit points means more than the money. Just to know what it could lead to next season.”

McCook tees off at 9:35am local time tomorrow alongside the Netherland’s Mayka Hoogeboom and France’s Alice Kong.
