Mireia Prat
LET rookie Megan Grehan and Spain’s Mireia Prat both opened with matching 69’s, 3 under par, in the weather-shortened Dinard Ladies Open.
Grehan, an early starter, had the toughest conditions of the day with strong winds still blowing during the morning. The young American bogeyed the tough opening 371 yard par 4, which played every bit of its yardage, bouncing back with an eagle on the 463 yard par 5 second. Birdies on the 5th, followed by a bogey on the difficult 6th hole, gave Grehan an opening nine of one under par. A bogey on the short par 4 11th followed by birdies on the 13th, 15th and 17th holes completed a tidy back nine of 31.
Spain’s Mireia Prat, starting from the 8th hole, bogeyed the par 3 ninth, but with birdies on the 14th and 18th also completed her back nine in 31 shots. The 23 year-old birdied the 2nd and her final hole of the day, the 106 yard par three 7th to sit alongside Grehan.
Fellow Spaniard Carmen Alonso and Sweden’s Isabella Ramsay both shot 67 (-2) to be tied for third position. Germany’s Ann-Kathrin Lindner and Swede Madeleine Zeigert were the only other players to finish under par on a cold, breezy day.
The second and final round will start at 8.10am with the leading group teeing off at 2.30pm. The forecast is for lighter winds and warmer temperatures.
