Emma Goddard
England’s Emma Goddard leads by four shots going into the final day’s play at the Azores Ladies Open at Terceira Golf Club on Terceira Island.
Thanks to a second round of 68 (-4), Goddard extended her lead over second placed Karolin Lampert (70) from Germany and five shots ahead of Sweden’s Natalie Wille (70), Michelle Thomson (71) from Scotland and Brazilian Victoria Lovelady, who scored the best round of the tournament, 67 (-5).
“It is my first time playing this golf course and I am definitely enjoying it. It is also my first time in a tournament on the LET Access Series and it’s been good. I came here to keep me in competition and next week I will also play on LETAS. Then, in December, I go to Dubai, a tournament on the LET, “said Goddard, who has played 30 holes without conceding a bogey on the challenging Terceira course.
“Yes, it took me a while to have a bogey and today there were two. The course is not too long, so we know that we will never have to play very long irons. The game plan is simple, hit many fairways, lots of greens. Yesterday I hit 13 greens and now 16. Not bad, “added the player from Liverpool, who has recorded nine birdies in 36 holes.
Goddard’s best performance in her rookie year on the LET is a 31st place at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco and the 24-year-old does not want to think too much about her chance to win the tournament, “We’ll see how tomorrow will be, one stroke at a time, that’s all I can do. Even with a lead of four strokes, on a golf course you never know. ”
The cut fell at 5 over par, with 26 professionals and three amateurs qualifying for the final day.
