Getting to know Kelsey MacDonald
Kelsey Macdonald turned professional in April last year and earned LET membership in category 9b for 2014 after finishing tied for 34th at the Lalla Aicha Tour School Final Qualifying. She has played in six LET events and made two cuts in Italy and Holland, also competing in two events on LETAS, with a best finish of tied 24th at the Association Suisse de Golf Ladies Open.
Tell us about your game and if you have made any improvements this year.
My first event was in Morocco. I got an invite last year as amateur to the same tournament and I was really looking forward to play again as professional this year. Unfortunately it did not go too great but having Robert Rock there, we took a lot from the week and decided to continue working a bit on the technique and get my ball flying a bit higher.
On these courses where we normally play on tour, I need to have a higher ball flight, so that’s technically what I have been changing. And then, my next event was an LET Access Series event in Switzerland, where I did reasonably and then I missed the cut in Turkey by one shot, which was a little bit disappointing. I think that spurred me on to do better in the following events, as it is quite hard to miss by one shot. There were still quite a lot of positives to take from there. Then I played the US Women’s Open Qualifier and had two rounds under par and qualified for the US Open. In Holland I had three solid rounds and a lot of birdies, which was really nice to see on my scorecard. Apart from this, I have been working a lot on my fitness. I normally travel with Amy Boulden, which is great, as she helps me with my swing and we do a lot of fitness together. We are a good team.
What are your goals this year?
I hope to make enough cuts so I can keep my card and I would love to go to Australia, so that’s really my goal, to be out there in Australia next January. I have not been there, so this is an incentive. It would be great to spend some time there!
