Finns Sohvi Harkonen and Kaisa Ruuttila share the first round lead with England’s Holly Aitchison and top amateur Danielle McVeigh from North Ireland after the first round of the Murcia Ladies Open.
The four players all finished at one under par after 18 holes on the South Course at the La Manga Club golf resort on the Mediterranean coast.
The La Manga Club is hosting an LET Access Series tournament for the first time and a strong breeze blew over the course on the opening day making it difficult for all the players, with just the four leaders breaking par in the first round.
France’s Barbara Genuini, Dane Julie Tvede and Swede’s Emilie Lind and Josefin Leijon are all tied just one shot behind the leaders at par.
With 84 players from 24 different nations in the field, representing countries as far afield as Estonia, Morocco, Serbia and South Africa, the Murcia Ladies Open is one of the most international tournaments on the burgeoning LET Access Series.
Play begins at 9am tomorrow on day two of the Murcia Ladies Open.
