Spain’s Elia Folch claimed the Bossey Ladies Championship title, with a two shot victory over Emile Alonso of France.
Folch, in her third year as a professional, recorded her first LETAS win with a solid performance at Golf & Country Club de Bossey, producing three rounds in the 60’s, and a final round of 69, for a ten under par total.
The 27-year-old didn’t pay much attention to her score and didn’t choose to know how she was lying going into the final nine holes. She just concentrated on the next shot and when she had a difficult second shot from the left rough into the final green, which came up just short of the green, Folch knew what she had to do once she saw the leader board by the green.
A chip to 8 feet and a holed putt secured a par four and she could celebrate with a number of the Spanish players who were waiting by the green to celebrate with her.
“It feels amazing, I was just playing and I didn’t know what the score was, so I didn’t know how I was playing, I just knew I was holing putts. It’s really exciting,” said Folch.
“My game plan was just to keep doing the same thing. So I just kept saying in my mind there’s one more day, there’s one more day, to just relax myself. I guess that worked.”
Alonso has had a tough time since turning professional but a renewed, relaxed approach due to recent work she has done with a mental coach, is paying off and giving the 25-year-old a different view of how to focus and relax on the course. This was Alonso’s best finish on LETAS.
Caroline Rominger of Switzerland, also produced her best finish since the 2014 Ingaro Ladies Open and comfortably the best Swiss player this week with a third round 67, a three day total of 7 under par. Rominger was joined in third by Meghan Maclaren from England, who is starting to find some confidence and form since returning from playing on the Symetra Tour. The 24-year-old won a bronze and silver medal at the recent European Championships at Gleneagles, and will be pleased to have continued her good form.
The LET Access Series now takes a short break until the Turfman Allerum Open takes place, from the 30 August – 1 September at Allerum Golf Club in Helsingborg, Sweden.
