FIVE BEST ON COURSE MOMENTS OF 2024

course

The 2024 season brought many fantastic moments on the golf course.

From spectacular shots to tear-jerker moments and amazing celebrations, this season had it all.

It’s hard to narrow down the season into five specific moments but here are some standouts.

1. Isabell Ekstrom’s Albatross – Terre Blanche Ladies Open

The chance of a golfer making an albatross are six million to one, but Sweden’s Isabell Ekstrom defied the odds on the 18th hole at Terre Blanche.

Producing the first albatross the tour has seen since 2018, Ekstrom finished the first round with the stunning shot and luckily for us it was caught on camera.

2. Natacha Host Husted’s Tiger Line- Smorum Ladies Open

The Smorum Ladies Open has been a hotly anticipated event on the LETAS schedule during the past three years.

LETAS Graduate Natacha Host Husted, who is attached to Smorum Golf Course, decided to take her knowledge of the course to the next level by taking a tiger line on the sixth over the hedges to drive the green.

It paid off and the Dane put down a birdie on the scorecard.

“Taking the tiger line was awesome. I had so many people, including my mum ask me if it really is the way to play.

“I spoke to my coach Nikki, and he said, there is no way you are not doing that. You know exactly where that line is, and you’ve played it a thousand times.

“Having it work so well in the final round was a great moment for me. Especially to show my mum it was the right play was important.”

3. Dennis winning at home – Get Golfing Women Golf Championship

There wasn’t a dry eye in the house when England’s Megan Dennis rolled in her last putt on the 18th at Mill Green Golf Club.

As Annika Sorenstam, a legend of the game said, you win a tournament during the back nine.

After a struggle on the front nine, Dennis brought it back to secure her first professional victory in front of friends and family.

It was a full circle moment for the Woburn based player who started her golf journey at the Club at Mill Green as a junior.

4. The Play Off- Rose Ladies Open

LETAS has built a reputation for having a lot of play offs. This year we saw the season finishing with four consecutive play offs.

Each brought their own fantastic storylines but the most dramatic to watch was the first play-off of the season between 2023 LETAS graduate Hannah Screen and four-time season winner Helen Briem.

With the light quickly fading on the Melbourne course, we were treated to three holes of intense match play.

A stunning moment was Screen’s clutch birdie on the second hole to keep herself in play.

Briem eventually rolled in the winning putt to clinch her fourth victory of the season, set a LETAS record and secure herself an LET card for 2025.

5. Kelsey Bennett’s Winning Putt- Hauts de France Pas de Calais Golf Open

The Hauts de France Pas de Calais Golf Open was a challenging week. Torrential rain and winds cut the tournament short to two rounds.

Bennett was the clubhouse leader after the first day but found herself on the more difficult side of the draw.

After going out early, her overall score of four-under-par could only be matched by Swiss player Anais Maggetti and England’s Billie-Jo Smith.

As the last to putt, in front of a big crowd Bennett sunk a 35 foot birdie to clinch her first tour victory.

It was simply spectacular.
