This week’s Ribeira Sacra Patrimonio de la Humanidad International Ladies Open will feature 94 players from 21 different countries competing from the 12 – 14 July, at Augas Santas Balneario and Golf Resort in Lugo, Spain.
Among the 18 Spanish players in the field will be Mireia Prat, who claimed her first LETAS win here in 2013 and went on to top the season’s order of merit. The 27-year-old from Barcelona is enjoying returning to Ribeira Sacra and looking forward to playing in her home country.
“I like the region and I like the people here, they treat us very well. The course is in good condition this week and I like playing at home and especially this course where I won in 2013. It was my first win as a professional and I have very good memories. I hope to enjoy it again.
Fellow countrywoman Silvia Banon is the highest ranked Spanish player on this year’s order of merit, currently lying in 20th position. The 24-year-old came close to lifting her first LETAS trophy in Belgium last week but faltered over the final round, finishing in 3rd place. Banon, like Prat, is relishing the opportunity to play in Spain.
“I feel very excited because I love my home country, that’s for sure. I played this tournament three years ago and it’s a really good tournament and the course is really nice and the people here are really nice too.”
The current LETAS ranking leader Meghan MacLaren will miss this week’s event as she travels to play in the US Women’s Open.
The Augas Santas Balneario and Golf Resort course includes two par 5’s, 11 par 4’s and five par 3’s with an overall par 70 and measuring 5,142 metres. It is situated on a thermal spa and the resort lies in a valley between the Central Orensano Mountains, while the Carabelos River comes into play on several holes.
