FEAR RETURNING FULL-TIME ON TOUR AFTER THREE YEARS OUT

Spain’s Natasha Fear is not living up to her name after making the brave decision to return to professional golf after a three-year break.

Fear decided to step away from Tour life at the end of 2021 due to several reasons, psychological and financial.

The Spaniard explained, “Back then my results defined me, so I decided to take a step back. It was only supposed to be a year, but it ended up being almost three.”

Playing at her home course on the LET’s La Sella Open was the final sign to Fear that she needed to get back into the game.

“I was about to move to Singapore and coach full-time, but I knew I had unfinished business.”

Fear has learnt many lessons from her time competing and is excited to put them into place this season, starting with the season opener in Terre Blanche.

“I’m making sure I’ve got a good team around me because golf can be a super lonely sport.

“My main goal this season is to focus on the process, when I’m on the course, I want to make sure I 100 percent control what I can control, and the outcome will be what it is.”

It’s been seven years since Fear last played at Terre Blanche and she is excited to return to the stunning venue.

“From what I remember it’s a strategic course, which evens the field. Preparation will be the key this week.”

Fear, who previously played on both the LET and LETAS lost her father two years ago and it was him who first encouraged her to try golf after they saw an advert in the paper.

“I first started golf when I was seven or eight because I saw an advert in the paper, for a junior golf academy.

“It was just some practice nets, fake putting green and some bunkers. It’s now padel courts but I loved it.

“Then I joined the junior golf academy at La Sella and that’s how everything got started.”

Fear has received mixed reactions when telling friends, family and fellow players she is returning to the world of professional golf.

“Some said, what are you doing? It depends on who I spoke to. I think for everyone who isn’t a player, then it is hard for them to wrap their heads around leaving stability and a good job.

“Playing on Tour is zero stability. I haven’t got any sponsorship backing, it’s all on savings. It’s a hard thing to understand if you haven’t played on Tour.

“But I have also had a lot of positive reactions from friends and players who think it’s great.

“This week the goal is process. I want to make sure that I’m very present in the moment, sticking to my routine and doing everything I can control.”

The 2025 LETAS season kicks off this week in France for the Terre Blanche Ladies Open, taking place April 4-6.
