DAWSON DELIGHTED TO PLAY IN GOTLAND AFTER LAST MINUTE DECISION

Isle of Man’s Ana Dawson had her best result to date on LETAS last week at the Ahlsell Trophy by Destination Jonkoping, where she finished third.

After three consistent rounds of 70,71 and 70, the 24-year-old gradually crept up the leaderboard and now sits 12th in the LETAS Order of Merit.

“Last week gives me some confidence but, in all honesty, I don’t feel like I played crazy different last week in comparison to the last couple of months.

“My game hasn’t felt too far away but I felt like I’ve just struggled to put the pieces together, so it was definitely nice to see it fall into place more last week!”

Dawson planned to take this tournament week off so she could rest up for the next stretch of events but decided to enter last minute, a decision she has no regrets about.

“I’m really enjoying being at Gumbalde! My sister and dad have both been to Gotland before to play in the Island Games, my sister for golf and dad for football, so it is also feels nice to compete in a place I know my family has also competed at!

“I’m also enjoying playing a tournament on an island! While it is a bit bigger than the Isle of Man there’s a lot of similarities and the wind that the forecast has given doesn’t bother me too much as I grew up playing golf in those conditions.”

Between the two tournaments, Dawson had a quick trip back to the UK which helped to break up the tournament stretch.

“As I hadn’t planned to come to Gotland I had a flight booked back to the UK from Gothenburg after last week so I managed to go back and see my boyfriend for a day and a half. We went to the movies and watched It Ends With Us which I had been really excited to see so I’m glad I got to go do that and break up the tournament run a bit!

Dawson, who has struggled mentally on the course for the first few months on tour is not looking for any specific goal this week, other than enjoying her golf.

“I have no performance goals this week, I never really do. I just want to continue to try enjoying my golf and work on things that have been an area of focus to me over the last couple of months, specifically the mental side of the game.”

Dawson tees off at 13:00pm local time alongside LETAS’  highest ranked Swedish player Anna Magnusson and Norway’s Tina Mazarino.
