Last year at Gränna Golf Club, the Isle of Man’s Ana Dawson recorded her best finish of the season, third after consistent rounds of 70, 71 and 70.
Despite a hectic start to the week with delayed flights, now the 25-year-old is excited to return to the Ahlsell Trophy to do even better.
Speaking ahead of the week, Dawson said: “This week and next week are the last two courses for the year where I’m going back to somewhere that I’ve played before so it’s obviously nice to benefit from my notes from last year. It takes the stress off.
“However, I think this year I’ve had a couple of my best finishes on courses i did bad on last year so I won’t take too much from it.”
Dawson, who has played on LETAS for the past two seasons has had two weeks off tournament golf. It’s been a good first half of the season for the Manx player who has recorded four top 10 finishes and only missed two cuts.
“We’re limited on days in Europe, so I have taken a couple of weeks off. I have had time to do some practice and I’ve used the time wisely.
“The season has been a lot more consistent than in previous years. Obviously, everyone wants more, and I don’t think I’ve quite played how I wanted to at all but I’m starting to get there.
“I’ve got better at making a score when things aren’t going right and that’s what is important in this game.”
The wind is the problem factor this week in Sweden, but the conditions don’t deter the 2023 Roehampton Cup winner who is used to high winds having grown up playing golf on an island.
“You can’t get more than six miles from the sea on my island, so I am used to the wind. I do not mind it at all. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t prefer 25 degrees and sunny, but the wind doesn’t bother me.
“I think the wind is a bit easier to juggle when you are out on your own. It’s better than rain.”
In 2022, Dawson became the first Manx player to earn LET playing rights and is a five-time course record holder.
“This week is a quick in and out, I’m leaving as soon as we’re done Friday to support my boyfriend in Ireland on the HotelPlanner Tour. So, it’s a quick week in Sweden on a familiar course but I am excited.“
Dawson tees it up at 11:54 local time alongside Mexico’s Alejandra Llaneza and Hannah Karg.
The Ahlsell Trophy by Destination Jonkoping takes place 6-8 August at Granna Golfklubb.
