Hayley Davis
England’s Hayley Davis clinched her first LET Access Series title and takes the lead in the Road to La Largue rankings after a stunning seven-shot victory at the Bossey Ladies Championship. After two phenomenal -6 rounds of 65, Davis led the tournament from start to finish and a final -1 round of 70 secured the Bossey crown for the 26-year-old, -13 for the tournament.
“I can’t believe I’ve actually done it. I’ve been close quite a few times now so to finally get it and in the way I did it I’m very happy.
I just played with a lot of confidence. Playing the course last year definitely helped coming into it. I had an idea of what the course is like. I think it’s one of those courses where the greens are really tricky, there’s loads of slopes. So, I think playing it more and more, not the easier it gets, but the more you know it. Off the tee I hit it really well, I didn’t miss many fairways all week so I was putting it in a good position. My putting was really good as well and the greens are in great condition so if you’re making good putts, you’re going to hole putts. So, a bit of everything really, it all clicked together.”
Davis began the day with an eight-shot lead over the field and it never looked seriously under threat as the Englishwoman played solid golf throughout the final eighteen holes. Davis hit three birdies, four bogeys and an eagle on the final day but the tournament lead never fell below six shots as Davis coasted home alongside mum Samantha who caddied for the champion throughout the week and was delighted to experience the momentous victory alongside daughter Hayley.
“It was cool, she’s very happy! Every time I’ve been in contention, the last few times, she wants to be here but this time she is here and it was good, really good.”
The 26-year-old has finished in the top-10 six times on the LET Access Series this season, including a play-off loss at Terre Blanche, but was delighted to finally secure a first victory on the tour at the Association du Golf & Country Club de Bossey. Davis now also leads the Order of Merit and having won her maiden title now wants to take the overall tour crown by topping the end of season rankings.
“Getting my card is obviously the big goal for the year but the way I’m playing, the position I’m in now, I’d love to win it (Order of Merit) and that will definitely be my goal now because after this I’ll be in a good position at the top and a few more solid events and I’ll have a good chance.”
France’s Emma Grechi had another strong showing on the tour with a -2 round of 69 cementing second place for the home favourite. Grechi, who was victorious at the Belfius Ladies Open in June, remains in contention for an LET card.
Next week, the players head to the Golf Resort Karlstejn in Liten, Czech Republic for the Tipsport Czech Ladies Open – a dual-ranking event with the Ladies European Tour. The new event for the 2019 tour boasts an impressive 120,000 Euro prize fund and provides the opportunity for those with aspirations of earning an LET card to impress in a high profile event with a high quality field.
