COURTNEY AND MARTINDALE WIN LAST TWO SPONSOR INVITES

England’s Marie Martindale and Imogen Courtney both finished on par at the WGC Invitational to win the last two spots for the Get Golfing Women’s Golf Championship.

The WGC Invitational was a one day, 18 hole event for female professionals and amateurs.

The event was won by the Netherland’s Lauren Holmey on five-under-par, who got her week off to a great start by scooping the £1,500 first prize.

Winner of the WGC Invitational, Netherland’s Lauren Holmey.

It was not just money the players were competing for but also invites. The top two players, not otherwise exempt, would win sponsor invites to the Get Golfing Women’s Golf Championship which starts on August 30th.

Three players were tied for the spots, but due to external circumstances England’s Marie Martindale and Imogen Courtney received them.

Both are professionals and have limited experience on tour.

For Martindale this will be her second event and for Courtney her debut, so this week presents a great opportunity to test their game against more seasoned LETAS players.

Speaking about what it means to get the chance to compete on a larger stage, Courtney said: “It means a lot, It’s a great opportunity for me to come out and play against all the LETAS players. This will be my first event so I’m really looking forward to it.”

Martindale added: “It’s a big surprise. I wasn’t planning on it. I’m playing at the Rose Ladies Open next week as an invite so I kind of didn’t expect much today.

“It’s been nice to do it. I’ve got a few phone calls to make because I was meant to be working.

“I’m really looking forward to it because the course is in amazing condition. So, let’s see what we can do over the weekend.”

The Get Golfing Women’s Golf Championship starts on the 30th of August and consists of three rounds of 18 holes of golf.
