Caudal, 25, playing on her home course, Golf de la Nivelle in Ciboure, started the final round at seven under par, two shots ahead of Maisongrosse. Caudal covered her opening nine holes level with the card before dropping a shot to par on the homeward nine to shoot 71 and finish the tournament at 6 under. Caudal said “This comes at a perfect time, when our European season will really start. I knew for several weeks that I struck the ball well. This victory will allow me to enter into this season full of confidence. “
Her closet challenger, Maisongrosse closed to within one shot of Caudal after a birdie at the tough 360-yard par 4 11th but bogeys on the 14th, 16th and 17th ended her challenge for the title.
The best round of the day came from talented 16-year-old Klara Spilkova from the Czech Republic. Starting the day at 1 over and in a tie for 5th place, Spilkova birdied the 13th and 15th holes to shoot a 68 to finish in third place on her own.
The Netherland’s Marieke Nivard shot a final round 73 to finish in fourth at one over par. As the top player not otherwise exempt, Nivard earned an invitation to the LET’s Turkish Airlines Turkish Ladies Open, which takes place from the 5th – 8th May at the National Golf Club in Antalya.
