French amateur, Sara Brentcheneff came so close to victory at last year’s Terre Blanche Ladies Open and ended the week in second place losing by one shot to Sweden’s Anna Magnusson.
The year before, a 15-year-old Brentcheneff held her own amongst the professionals to place in the top 10.
Now, the 17-year-old feels this could be the year for a long awaited victory.
“This week is special for me because I love this tournament, love this course and I want to win. I’m excited.”
The 2024 Ping Junior Solheim Cup Team Europe member is not feeling the pressure despite many French hopes on her.
“I don’t feel the pressure as I’m still just an amateur. I just want to win and want to beat the professionals, especially after last year.”
Lyon-based Brentcheneff is not short of support this week with both her father and mental coach coming out to support her.
“I enjoy having my dad follow me. Last year the French support was amazing. I remember thinking how cool it was.
“Anna played amazing and I’m so pleased to see she made it onto the LET, but now it’s my turn.”
Brentcheneff doesn’t plan to go to college and pursue further education, instead the goal is to turn professional at the end of 2026.
“This year is all about graduating, it’s been hard to balance amateur golf and school. Next year is about playing golf, this year I just want to graduate.”
Brentcheneff currently sits 69th on the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
The Frenchwoman tees it up at 13:12pm local time alongside Sweden’s Andrea Lignell and 2024 Iberdrola Calatayud Ladies Open winner England’s Ellie Gower.
