Bakker hoping to go one better at Norrporten Ladies Open

Finland’s Krista Bakker is confident that she can improve on her runner-up finish at last year’s Norrporten Ladies Open when she returns to compete at Sundsvall Golf Club in Kvissleby, Sweden, from August 3-5.

The 22-year-old from Turku, who won the 2015 CreditGate24 GolfSeries Hamburg Open, was edged to her second LETAS title when Germany’s Olivia Cowan finished a stroke ahead 12 months ago to cement her third LETAS trophy.

“I’m looking forward to going back to Sundsvall Golf Club because I have some good memories from last year. It’s a very nice course and I like the place very much,” commented Bakker. “It’s a forest course and it suits me well as it’s similar to many courses in Finland.”

Bakker graduated to the Ladies European Tour from LETAS in 2015 and she is pleased with her start to the 2016 season, following a tie for ninth at the Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco, which equalled her career best finish at the 2014 Deloitte Ladies Open and a career low round of six-under-par 65 in the Tipsport Golf Masters in Pilsen.

“I think it’s been a solid start as I played well in Morocco and I had my best round, a six under par, at Golf Park Pilsen in the Czech Republic so the scoring is going in the right direction.  My goal is to win a tournament on the LET,” said Bakker, who is currently 45th on the LET Order of Merit.

Her next mission though is to win again on the LET Access Series, which will be no easy task given the competition. She is joined in the field by current Order of Merit leader Maria Parra of Spain and former Ranking winners Mireia Prat of Spain and Emma Westin from Sweden, among others including the ASGI Ladies Open winner Carolina Gonzalez Garcia from Spain.
