In slightly windier conditions, Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjall matched yesterday’s great opening round of 67(-3) to sit at the top of the leaderboard heading into the final day of competition at the Destination Gotland Ladies Open.
It was an almost faultless round for the MoreGolf Mastercard Open winner who carded four birdies and made one mistake, a bogey on hole three.
Commenting on round two, Arwefjall said: “I’m happy with a 67 today, it’s nice to match it up with yesterday.
“I still need to make better contact with my irons like yesterday, but I will work on that and do better tomorrow.”
Arwefjall has had a fantastic first full season on LETAS with one win, three top five finishes and six out of six cuts made.
Arwefjall is also no stranger to winning at home in Sweden. In 2021, as an amateur she beat fellow Swede Sofie Bringner in a play-off to take victory at the GolfUppsala Open.
Arwefjall is excited to play in the leading group and plans to enjoy the opportunity once again.
“Tomorrow my mum will come, and she will be my caddy for the day. So, I’m excited about that.
“No matter what happens I’m going to go out and have fun and play good golf hopefully.
“We will see what happens.”
Overnight leader Brianna Navarrosa clung on to finish second heading into the final day on five-under-par.
It was a more difficult day for the American rookie who carded a mixed round of one double bogey, two bogeys and two birdies. Yet Navarrosa is not discouraged.
“Today was good! Obviously not anything like yesterday but there were lots of positives.
“I made some crucial up and downs from tough spots. Not as many putts dropped as yesterday but fought till the end.”
“I think like everyone I had first tee nerves, but that passed quickly. I reminded myself before the round and throughout the day to stay present and not get carried away with any mishaps.”
Navarrosa is excited to play in the final group for the first time as a professional.
“My plan for tomorrow doesn’t change I just want to take each shot at a time and to be patient, especially if the wind blows.
“Today was a bit windier than yesterday and taking that into account is important. And whatever happens happens. I’m just trusting my game.”
France’s Ariane Klotz and the Netherland’s Romy Meekers are tied for third on three-under-par.
Klotz said: “Today I felt good out there. Gumbalde is a very cute and pretty course, and I enjoy playing it so much, especially in the wind it’s tricky but fun.
“The weather has been gorgeous too so we are lucky on that point. We’re going out to the seafront tonight for food and pretty views.”
Klotz has had a consistent year on LETAS with five top 10 finishes and currently sits seventh on the LETAS Order of Merit, inside the spots for the automatic LET card for 2025.
A win this week and the 500 points it gives would put Klotz comfortably into contention.
“Tomorrow, I want to keep the same mindset as all week, just trust myself and stay patient on the course, and just limit mistakes and hopefully I’ll make a couple birdies here and there”
Three players tied for fifth on one-under-par: last week’s runner-up Alessia Nobilio, Sweden’s Andrea Bergsdottir and amateur Nathalie Borg.
Whilst eight players are tied for eighth on par.
57 players made the cut which stood at +7.
