Kajsa Arwefjäll has had a good start to life as a professional with back-to-back top-five finishes on the LET Access Series (LETAS).
The 24-year-old graduated from San Jose State University in May and turned professional ahead of the Ladies European Tour (LET) double header in Sweden.
Arwefjäll teed it up at the Dormy Open Helsingborg and Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed on the LET before heading to LETAS.
“I’ve always wanted to turn pro after college, but the question was if I should do it before or after summer,” she said.
“When I got the opportunity to play Dormy Open Helsingborg as my first professional event it felt like a good plan.
“Starting my professional career in Sweden on the Helsingborg Dormy Open was amazing. Turning pro is something I’ve always wanted and to be able to kick it off at home with my family and friends around me was special.
“Playing the LET tournaments was a great opportunity and experience. I was able to compare my game towards the LET players and have my coach and dad Niclas Arwefjäll as a caddie. Having my coach as a caddie being able to work with him after being in America for four months was great.
“Scandinavian Mixed is such an amazing tournament and a great opportunity for the LET. Playing this event felt extra special and my heart rate was a little higher than normal!
“I played well but didn’t really get everything together, made some bad mistakes and didn’t make any putts. Even though, I didn’t make the cut I felt good with my game and I just had to make some more putts.”
In her first two starts of 2024, Arwefjäll finished in fifth place at the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge and followed that up with a second place at last week’s Santander Golf Tour – Avila.
The Swedish player, who sits fourth in the LETAS Order of Merit, has been working hard on gaining distance on the golf course and believes it has started to pay off recently.
She explained: “My game has been pretty good. Even at the two LET tournaments I was hitting the ball very well, but I lost some strokes in the putting.
“In Czech I hit the ball very well and gave myself many opportunities for birdies but unfortunately didn’t make them. I came fifth, which is good, but it felt like I had more in me which showed the first two rounds in Spain. I was hitting them very close and made some putts.
“I have been working to hit the ball further and I feel like I have started to see some results which is good. I’m going to keep working on my game and especially put some extra time on the putting green.
“I would say that I am confident that I can shoot those low scores, gut golf is golf, and you never know what can happen. I will take it shot by shot and day by day and we will see what will happen. I’m playing LETAS this year trying to get my card to the LET.”
This week sees the MoreGolf Mastercard Open taking place at Varbergs Golf Klubb from June 27-29.
Arwefjäll has already had success as an amateur on LETAS winning the GolfUppsala Open in Sweden in 2021.
And the 24-year-old, who enjoys playing on home soil, is hoping for more good results on the Swedish swing of the 2024 LETAS season.
“I love playing in Sweden,” she continued. “I’m going to stay with my friend Louisa Carlbom who lives in Gothenburg. I’ve played multiple LETAS events in Sweden before and they are always very well arranged, so I’m looking forward to it.
“I would love to play some good golf and give myself great opportunities. These are a lot of good players on the Tour, but I would love to win an event this season and we will see when it comes. I would be amazing to get my first win as a professional at home in Sweden.
“Varbergs is a great course, I played it last a couple of years ago but every time I’ve played there it’s been in a great shape. From what I can remember it has some blind shots, some holes that are in the trees and some more open with water. I think it is going to be a great time and it looks like there is going to be some good weather.”
Arwefjäll begins her title challenge at 12.57pm (local time) alongside Nikki Hofstede of the Netherlands and France’s Ariane Klotz.
