Caroline Afonso delighted the home fans with a victory in the Fourqueux Ladies Open at Golf de Fourqueux, near Paris in perfect conditions.

The 27-year-old from Quimper in France started the final round tied for the lead with Melodie Bourdy, two strokes clear of Switzerland’s Melanie Maetzler, Scot Pamela Feggans and Finland’s Sohvi Harkonen. Afonso’s final round of 70 was good enough to end the three-round tournament five strokes ahead of Scotland’s Katy McNicoll.

Afonso, who is now an ambassador for GENERALI, was not competing in the Ricoh Women’s British Open this week at Royal Liverpool Golf Club and was pleased that she had made the decision to take part in the Fourqueux Ladies Open, the final event on this season’s GENERALI Ladies Tour. The victory was Afonso’s third on the LET Access Series after winning the Terre Blanche Ladies Open and La Nivelle Ladies Open during the 2010 season, on her way to winning the LETAS Order of Merit. She said, “This victory is important for me because it gives me confidence that I was lacking a lot in recent weeks.”

Afonso birdied the third but double bogeyed the par-five fourth before picking up another shot at the seventh. She also birdied the 12th and finished in style by making a birdie on the final hole.

The Frenchwoman finished on a four under par total of 212 and won €3,414. Her next event will be the Tenerife Open de Espana Feminino at Las Americas Golf Course in Tenerife from September 20 – 23 on the Ladies European Tour, while the next LETAS event is the Azores Ladies Open to be played on October 5 – 7 at Furnas Golf Club in the Azores, Portugal.

Although Marion Ricordeau missed the cut this week, the French player won the GENERALI Ladies Order of Merit and receives an invitation to play in the Lacoste Ladies Open de France at Chantaco Golf Club in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, France from the 4 – 7 October.
