A DREAM COME TRUE FOR MUEHLBAUER TO PLAY AT HOME

Austria’s Katharina Muehlbauer has been counting down the days until she alongside 11 other Austrians get to tee it up in her home country at the Allegria Ladies Open.

This week ends a 13 year hiatus for Austria hosting a women’s professional golf tournament.

Muehlbauer, who has 18 top 10 finishes on LETAS (the third most of all time), is excited to tee it up in front of friends and family at the Allegria Resort.

Speaking about what it means to play at home, Muehlbauer said: “It’s amazing to play at home and in front of family members and friends. Playing a professional tournament at home is something I’ve always dreamed of and now it’s finally taking place.”

Muehlbauer, who has fond memories of this course from playing in national tournaments as a junior, has never seen the course in better shape.

“They’ve done a fantastic job on the greens. I think we have never had such good greens here so that’s pretty amazing. It’s a little bit hilly, but I think we are used to that right now.

“There are a lot of par threes, which is different, but I really like the course.”

Muehlbauer’s partner Max Mayer is on the bag this week and the couple’s first photo together was taken here.

“
I have great memories here, as a junior, I won an overall thing in Austria here. It’s a funny story but we were looking through photos and Max and I were pictured here right in front of the hotel, around 10 years ago, because he won the overall rankings and I did.

“We saw this picture and thought oh my God, as we weren’t together and didn’t know each other back then.”

Muehlbauer last won on LETAS back in 2023 at the LETAS Link Series at Ramside Hall and is hoping that this could be her week.

“When I’m playing a tournament, I’m coming here to win. Yet the most important thing is to really enjoy it.
This is something that is very special for Max and I and I’m just trying to enjoy it.

“ I’m having fun, my family members are coming and watching, so it’s just all about enjoying it as much as I can.”

Muehlbauer has had a solid start to the season with one top 10 and one top 15 in the first two tournaments.

“The first two tournaments were pretty good. Yet Portugal last week was not the best, I had problems with my driver, so my driver broke during the first round, so it was not the best.

“Anyways, that’s already in the past.
I did a lot of changes during the winter. I changed my coach and a lot of other members in my team and I’m really, really happy with the progress and how my game evolved. So I just can’t wait to finally show it on home soil.”

The Allegria Ladies Open begins on Wednesday 21 May and will conclude on Friday 23 May.
