After a great week in Rome, the LET Access Series moves onto Spain this week with the Santander Golf Tour Zaragoza and Order of Merit leader Nina Pegova is trying to keep the quality of her golf high.
Real Club de Golf La Penaza is the venue for the fifth event of the 2021 LETAS calendar where 83 players, including 21 Spaniards, will tee it up in a 54-hole stroke play format.
Zaragoza is a city with beautiful landmarks such as the Basilica del Pilar, La Seo Cathedral and the Aljaferia Palace – while the Spanish weather is doing its best with soaring temperatures expected for the rest of the week.
The Santander Golf Tour Zaragoza will also provide a pathway for players to earn passage to the next stage of qualifying for this year’s AIG Women’s Open.
The event has been awarded a minimum of six places into Final Qualifying, for those not otherwise exempt.
For Pegova, this week is another opportunity to keep working on the quality of her golf and making sure her game is where she wants it to be.
The Russian will be teeing it up at 10.56 local time alongside Swaziland’s Nobuhle Dlamini and Spain’s Almudena Blasco.
Despite having a lead of 217.50 points in the Order of Merit, Pegova is not thinking about the standings and instead focusing on her game.
She said: “It is great that I am leading the Order of Merit, but I am not focused on it. For me, the most important thing is my quality of shots. We are already up to a third of the way through the season and with tournaments being played almost every week, I am trying to keep my quality of shots from week to week.
“The course in Spain is looking hot! It is always a pleasure for me to play in Spain. This week I hope to keep playing quality golf and enjoy the Spanish hospitality.”
Pegova is one of five LETAS tournament winners in the field alongside English duo Rachael Goodall and Lily May Humphreys, Finland’s Niina Liias and French amateur Agathe Laisne.
Gabrielle Macdonald has had a solid season so far with T9 at the Amundi Czech Ladies Challenge and at last week’s ROMA ALPS LETAS Trophy.
The Scottish golfer moved up to third in the Order of Merit and has 465 points to her name and will be hoping to continue her bright form this week.
