Jade Schaeffer from France leads a super-strong contingent to contest the Terre Blanche Ladies Open, which takes place from Wednesday 31st March to Saturday 3rd April on the LET Access Series (LETAS).
Schaeffer will headline the international field of competitors teeing up at Golf de Terre Blanche, located in the Provence hills, near Cannes on the Côte d’Azur.
The 23-year-old from Reunion Island, who claimed her maiden Ladies European Tour victory almost 12 months ago in Germany, faces a strong field which includes her compatriots Virginie Lagoutte-Clement and Anne-Lise Caudal.
Schaeffer capped a great 2009 season with five additional top ten finishes to finish 10th on the LET’s Henderson Money List. She is also due to represent France alongside former European number one Gwladys Nocera at the forthcoming Comunitat Valenciana European Nations Cup in Spain from 22-25 April.
She explained why she is looking forward to playing in the LETAS tournament. “I’m interested in playing tournaments which take place in France: my country,” she said. “My goal for this tournament is to win.”
She was impressed with Terre Blanche having played there last winter and added: “I appreciated the course because it is a course with elevations and very good greens. I like so much this part of France; it is sunny and has sea and mountains at the same time; the gastronomy is also so delicious.”
There are 28 French players teeing up at the Terre Blanche Ladies Open, including the current top ranked French amateur Lucie Andre, who tied for 23rd at the recent Lalla Meryem Cup in Morocco. Other prominent French players include Melodie Bourdy, Nathalie David-Mila and LET rookie Julie Maisongrosse.
There are competitors from 18 different countries in total coming from as far and wide as Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, England, Spain, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Scotland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and Wales.
The LET Access Series (LETAS) is the official feeder tour to the LET in 2010 and the top player on the 2010 LETAS Ranking will earn membership of the Ladies European Tour in 2011.
