PGA member Sarah Smith is competing at the WPGA International Challenge this year after qualifying through the WPGA One Day Series, finishing in second place for the year overall. Sarah coaches throughout the year whilst also competing in the WPGA One Day Series. We get to know Sarah with a few quick questions…
Who is your favourite golfer?
Rory Mcilroy.. When getting through to a Faldo Series final as a junior in Lough Erne, Ireland, Rory did a question & answer session for the group on the range. It was great to get some inspiration and this was one of the things that helped me decide weather to turn pro or not!
What’s your favourite club in your bag?
Driver… when it hits fairways!
What’s been your biggest golfing achievement of your career?
Being nominated & winning The Cambridgeshire Golfing Ambassador of the Year award for 2018.
Which is your favourite golf course?
I don’t just have one favourite, I think I have a few but two of my best achievements from junior days were played at Thorpness & Aldeburgh Golf Courses.. I shot under par both times getting my handicap cut from the four to two area! Also in the top 5 would have to be Gleneagles where I played in a friendly game four years back now!
What is the one thing you could not live without?
My phone.. as bad as it sounds, I use it for work, emails, talking to my friends, catching up with social media etc- I don’t know what I’d do without it..!
What is your favourite food?
Very random! Jacket potatoewith cheese.
Who do you most look up to?
My parents! They’ve definitely brought me up well in my younger life and helped me become the person and professional golfer I am now!
How would you spend your perfect day?
With my partner Chris- I’m an outdoors person, so anything in the sunshine…! Punting in my home town, Cambridge, a walk around the zoo, bar gardens for cocktails!
Your favourite city?
Newcastle, my partner is from Newcastle- we’ve been together for two years and before meeting him I’d never been.. Now I’m always wanting to visit his family! (Not to live though, its too cold up there!)

Ambitious
What do you like doing besides playing golf?
Shopping! Which girl doesn’t?
If you could travel anywhere where would you go?
Back to Australia, I went on a family holiday for four weeks when I was very young, but I’d love to go back.
What is your most memorable sporting moment?
The same answer as the ‘Biggest Golfing Achievement’ question!
What’s your best golfing tip for a beginner?
When they say ‘your feet aren’t lined up!’ .. Always double check your clubs in line with the target and your feet are parallel.. Don’t line your feet up with the target as then the ball would finish right all the time!
Do you have any superstitions before a round?
No superstitions but I always have to have a good song in my head for the round!
What’s in your golf bag besides golf balls and clubs?
My golf bag is definitely described as ‘the kitchen sink’ .. I carry a lot of food to keep my energy levels up which keeps me happy even after a bad shot..! It’s all about the recovery shot after…
What are your goals for 2018?
My 2019 goal is definitely finishing 1st on the WPGA Order Of Merit!
