England’s Rachael Goodall made her final few holes really count, finishing with two birdies to claim her first LET Access Series title at the Turfman Allerum Open, in Sweden.
The 28-year-old from Wallasey who recently returned to her old coach, Alan Thompson, based at Heswall Golf Club, produced a bogey free round with birdies on the 2nd, 5th and 11th, and critically on the 17th and 18th holes.
Goodall credited Thompson, who had coached her since she was 12-years-old, for helping her to improve her driving and also her improved putting due to implementing the Aim Point method.
“It hasn’t sunk in yet. It’s really cool, all the hard work has started to pay off. I’ve really improved my putting in the last year, just green reading really. That definitely helped this week because I putted quite well. And, also I went back to my old coach and he’s really helped my game a lot. I was really struggling with my driving, I didn’t really know what I was doing from the tee. And he has coached me from when I was little so if anyone could help me, he could,” said Goodall.
Norway’s Tonje Daffinrud held a two shot lead over Goodall and Sweden’s Lynn Carlsson, with just three holes to play but bogeyed all three, to finish at six under par in a tie for third place, alongside Carlsson who also bogeyed her 17th hole.
Spain’s Maria Palacios, blemish free for her last 38 holes of the tournament, occupied 2nd place on her at 7 under par, also finishing strongly with birdies on the final two holes.
Swede Filippa Moork (68) and Laura Fuenfstueck (70) of Germany, finished in a tie for 5th place at five under, a total of 211.
Goodall’s win moves her up to 13th on the LETAS rankings. The top 5 players at the end of the season earn their cards for the Ladies European Tour, whilst the next 15 players progress directly to the final stage of the Lalla Aicha Tour School, which takes place in late December in Morocco.
There are just two events remaining on the 2018 schedule, the WPGA International Challenge, played from the 13 – 15 September on the Gainsborough Course at Stoke By Nayland, and the Santander Golf Tour LETAS El Prat, which takes place from the 8 – 10 November at El Prat, near Barcelona in Spain.
