Gams, 5 May 2018 – The moving day at the VP Bank Ladies Open shook up the participants on Saturday. The high-flyer of the first day, the Frenchwoman Ariane Provot, lost ground and let Chloe Leurquin from Belgium pass by. Provot is three strokes behind the leader, together with three other players going into the final round.
“I have played very consistently and used my birdie chances,” said Leurquin, after completing the second round at GC Gams-Werdenberg. In the windier conditions than the day before, she also completed the second round under par. “In just two days, I only scored one bogey; Today at the 8th, the ball landed in the rough and I had to chip out.”
With this solid performance, the 27-year-old made it to the top of the leaderboard and goes into the final round on Sunday with a three-stroke lead.
One of the next pursuers is Provot, who shot 13 strokes more than her first round of 62, finishing with a three over par, 75 and a seven under par total. Both Provot and Carmen Alonso are lying on the same score after the Spaniard recorded a 74 in the second round. Although Alonso struggled, she remained positive for the final round.
“I love the course, it is in perfect condition and I just want to have fun on Sunday out there, that’s the most important thing,” she commented.
Swede Lynn Carlsson and the best amateur in the field, Austrian Julia Unterweger, are also tied for second place. The ÖGV national player, who is in Gams for the fifth time, was pleased about another under-par round and looks forward to going into Sunday in a relaxed mood.
“I played good golf for two days, I would like to repeat that on the final day. Although I have never been so advanced in a professional tournament, that does not make me nervous. It is a new situation, an enjoyable one. And a good experience”, said the best-ranked German-speaking player in the field.
Defending champion Linda Henriksson had a disappointing day, receiving a four-shot penalty for having fifteen clubs in her golf bag. The Finn shot an 80 to miss the cut, which fell at even par.
