Maria Parra
Spain’s Maria Parra claimed her second LETAS title with a play-off victory over Charlotte Thompson of England, at the Drobak Ladies Open in Norway.
The young Spaniard birdied the third play-off to record her second win this year and further extend her lead at the top of the LETAS Order of Merit. Parra had the opportunity to win the title on the 18th hole of regular play but only her third bogey of the week and a final round of 65, forced a play-off with the in-form Thompson, who recorded a 67.
“I played very very well. I am putting very well too. I only made three bogeys in three days. I played the three rounds really comfortable on the course and the last day I played my best. I made bogey on the last hole and I need to go to a play-off but I won on the 3rd hole with a birdie so I am very happy.”
Parra was paired with the world number one, Lydia Ko, in the third round of the Ricoh Women’s British Open and admitted it had been a great experience and she had gained a great deal of confidence from their 18 holes together.
“I played with Lydia and she’s a really good person. We were talking all around the course and I asked Lydia a lot of questions like when she turned professional and things. I enjoyed it and learned a lot.”
Austria’s Sarah Schober closed with a 67 to finish in third place on her own at 7 under par, 203. Sanna Nuutinen from Finland and Dane Daisy Nielsen tied at 5 under, 205, for a share of fourth.
