Getting to Know Manon De Roey

Belgium’s Manon de Roey joined the LET Access Series in 2014, producing her best finish to date in the same year at the Open Generali de Strasberg with a tie for 2nd place. Manon answers a few quick questions…

Do you have a nickname your friends refer to you by? 

Mouchke

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three items would you take with you?

My water bottle, a pillow and a friend

If you could have an unlimited storage of one thing, what would it be?

Belgian chocolate

What is your favourite activity you do when you want to relax?

Sleeping, I love to sleep

How do you spend your time in the airports?

Listening to music, watching movies and people watching

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever received?

Believe in yourself!

What is the weirdest thing you have ever eaten?

Vegemite, I thought it was something like Nutella but not at all

If you had one word to describe yourself, what would it be?

Happy

Do you supports a sports team? 

The Red Lions, Belgian Men’s Team in field hockey because I also played hockey for 13 years.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?

South Africa

What advice would you give to aspiring amateurs looking to turn professional?

Make sure you have a good team around you.

Do you like cooking? 

Not really

Roger Federer

Tell us something you hate doing. Why?

Driving in traffic, because I get very frustrated

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

The Olympic Games in 2020 in Japan

What has been you biggest golfing achievement?

Winning two tournaments in the same year in college golf, one of them being the Mountain West Championship at the same course as the Kraft Nabisco

What is your favourite golf course to play and why?

Cascata Golf Club in Las Vegas. It is a beautiful course with palm trees and waterfalls but you have to be on your A game to play well

Do you have any superstitions before playing golf?

I always have to play with the same ball marker

Age you started playing golf? 

12. My dad and brother already played and one day I went with them to the range and my first shot was 100m

Age you achieved your first handicap?

13

Your lowest ever round of golf?

-7 the Old Course at St Andrews during the St Rules Trophy in 2014

What’s your favourite club in your bag?

My putter

What’s in your golf bag apart from clubs and golf balls?

Food, water, tape, a lot of tees and Sharpies in many different colours

What is your average driving distance?

Around 230 metres

What tournament are you looking forward to most this season?

I am looking forward to every tournament this season.

If you could pick a dream fourball partner who would it be and why?

Phil Mickelson because he is always smiling and I love his short game

What is your favourite distance to practise?

80 metres

If you could learn any language fluently, what would it be?

Spanish
