Emma Goddard
England’s Emma Goddard shot an opening 69, 3 under par, to lead after the first round of the Azores Ladies Open at Terceira Golf Club on Terceira Island. The Englishwoman felt as though she was playing at home with the changeable weather during the first day.
“It is undoubtedly the typical British weather, cold, rain, but suddenly is nice and sunny. It’s my first time here, this island is very beautiful. I really enjoyed the course and tried to take advantage of opportunities, despite being very wet, “she said after her bogey free round.
“It’s nice to be on top of the leaderboard but I have no expectations for tomorrow, but to do the same as today and be ready for the last day. It’s my first time playing in a LETAS tournament. I have a full card for the LET but there was this gap on the calendar and I decided to play the next two weeks on LETAS. Right now I’m on the edge to keep the card, we will see, “added Goddard who is lying in 123rd position on the ISPS HANDA Order of Merit on the LET.
Goddard leads three players, all scoring an opening round of 70, 2 under par. Spain’s Natalia Escuriola who turned professional just before this event, France’s Marion Duvernay and Finland’s Krista Bakker, a winner on the LET Access Series earlier this year in Germany.
Four players, Scotland’s Michele Thomson, England’s Annabel Dimmock, Karolin Lampert from Germany and Spanish amateur Luna Sobron, are all tied for 5th place at 1 under par.
